Artificial Intelligence (AI) has introduced something unprecedented in our lives.
Practically all of us use tools like Chat GPT on daily basis. At first mostly software developers made use of it, but nowadays we see it spreading across whole of society, with the young generation being at the forefront.
But can AI capture one’s personality? Can it authentically replicate human memories, our feelings, our attitudes, the way we see the world?
In today’s post we will try to dissect the above question, and provide some answers, segment by segment.
Memories (data)
If by memories we mean facts, the answer is very simple. Yes, AI can memorize all facts that we have memorized, and it will do it much better than we do. As we all know, human memory is volatile (decays with passage of time), and we preserve our memories by writing books, taking photos, or recording films). With AI, there is no decay, and the memory available is almost infinite (technically, it’s not infinite, and there is an associated cost, but we also know that the technology is getting better, year by year).
So, if you need somewhere to store important facts of your life – dates (like birthdays, wedding anniversaries, or any other kind of dates), or names of persons or places where some important things happened, AI is, again, an ideal place to store your memories.
AI can also easily memorize your stories describing what happened on a particular trip, or how you saw a different person.
To conclude, AI is superior when it comes to capturing your memories.
And that is also our advice to Memento Vitae clients – in your interview, please be as detailed as possible, with all factual details like: when something happened, where it happened, with whom did it happen, why did it happen, and why is it so important.
The more such details you provide in your interview, the more authentic your Memento Vitae profile will be.
Emotions
Unlike memories, which can be translated into data, emotions are much more difficult to capture and record. Yes, we could spend paragraphs and paragraphs of text describing a particular emotion, but there is no guarantee that it will be a success. Many will say that the best way emotions get expressed is through art – but not all of us have artistic skills.
AI does not feel (I love the thought by Yuval Noah Harari – how will you know that finally feels something? It will ask you, just before you leave the chat ‘please stay a little bit longer’), but it was trained to understand that emotions are important to us, humans.
So, do not expect AI to be truly compassionate and understand your pain, but it’s reasonable to expect that AI will understand that something hurts you, and that it should address that topic kindly.
Going further, although AI does not feel, it can establish relationships in our feelings. That is why we encourage our clients to be as open as possible in their interviews, including some sensitive (and potentially painful) topics which marked their lives.
We have witnessed, in many cases, that such persons do get profound insights from their Memento Vitae AI profile – insights which help them explain certain feelings or certain behaviours (which psychologically is considered a great help).
On the contrary, we have also seen clients who remain on the surface of their personality, not delving deeper into sensitive topics during their Memento Vitae interview. We can also say that such clients did not use the full potential of their AI profile.
On the other hand, psychology does have instruments for measuring different aspects of one’s personality. If we ask one real person to fill in a psychological test – we can also ask the AI profile based on this person to do this test as well. And then we can compare the similarity of responses received from real human, versus the responses by his AI profile.
This is exactly what we do in evaluation of your Memento Vitae AI profile – and typically, this personality similarity is between 85% and 95%. Not bad, is it?
The conclusion is: emotions cannot be captured (yet), not even in your AI profile. Never the less, it does pay off (speaking psychologically) to invest more of yourself into your AI profile – because AI will also give it back.
Images and sounds
Actually, in our digital era, images and sounds all fall into data (memories which can be easily stored and reproduced).
Although Memento Viate does not yet offer the possibility of storing your recordings (nor images) – this is on our roadmap, and we hope to have it in the near future.
